The Cygnet® Flexible Surgical Clamp from Peters Surgical is designed for both on-pump and off-pump cardiac surgeries. Its flexible design, along with a variety of jaw orientations and removable single-use inserts, makes it an essential tool for optimizing access to the operative field, especially in less invasive procedures.

I. Cygnet® Flexible Clamp Setup

The low-profile flexible Cygnet® aortic clamp is specifically designed to enhance access to the operative field in less invasive surgeries.

It provides a wide variety of jaw orientations:

  • 33 mm Jaws: Used for pediatric surgeries.
  • 86mm Jaws: Suitable for standard vascular procedures.
  • 66mm Jaws: Designed for mini thoracotomy, available in straight and curved styles.
  • Lambert-Kay Jaws: Ideal for partial occlusion, providing precise control during surgery.

II. On-Pump Aorta Clamping with Cygnet® Flexible Surgical Clamp

For on-pump cardiac surgeries, the Cygnet® Flexible surgical clamp (N10174V “ULTRA”) with a flexible neck and rigid shaft is used to cross-clamp the ascending aorta.

Steps for On-Pump Aorta Clamping:

  1. Loading Single-Use Inserts (N10174V “Ultra”) on Clamp Jaws: Ensure inserts are properly loaded to provide secure clamping and minimal tissue trauma.
  2. Cross-Clamping the Ascending Aorta: Carefully position the clamp on the ascending aorta and squeeze the handle to close the jaws.
  3. Adapting to the Operative Field: The clamp’s flexible neck adapts to the surgical environment, reducing obstruction and allowing better access.
  4. De-Airing of Cardiac Cavities: Perform necessary de-airing of cardiac cavities to ensure no air embolisms occur.
  5. Releasing the Aortic Clamp: Release the clamp once the procedure is completed, ensuring smooth removal without causing additional trauma.

III. Off-Pump Aorta Clamping with Cygnet® Flexible Surgical Clamp

For off-pump cardiac surgeries, the Cygnet® flexible surgical clamp used in conjunction with inserts (N10174V “ULTRA”) is used for proximal anastomosis through a side-biting aortic clamp.

Steps for Off-Pump Aorta Clamping:

  1. Proximal Anastomosis: Use the Cygnet® clamp for proximal anastomosis to create a hemostatic field to facilitate graft attachment.
  2. Optimizing Access to the Operative Field: The design of the Cygnet® clamp ensures minimal obstruction and optimal access during the anastomosis.

CONCLUSION

The Cygnet® flexible surgical clamp, with its adaptable jaw orientations and removable single-use inserts, provides surgeons with a versatile and effective tool for both on-pump and off-pump cardiac surgeries.

Its ability to adapt to the operative field and provide secure clamping for optimal surgical outcomes, particularly in less invasive procedures.

Cygnet® Flexible Clamp.

INDICATIONS: The Cygnet® surgical clamp is used with jaw inserts to temporarily occlude a blood vessel, vein or artery. When the rigid shaft is retracted, the clamp handle may be placed out of the way, facilitating access to the surgical site. Cygnet® clamp is to be used with INTRACK® inserts as indicated for surgical clamping to temporarily occlude blood vessels in cardiovascular, peripheral vascular and general surgical procedures. The Cygnet® clamp is available in 33mm, 66mm and 86mm jaw lengths, which are compatible with INTRACK® 33mm, 66mm and 86mm inserts. Medical Device Class I – CE 2797 – Manufacturer: Vitalitec International Inc. Carefully read the instructions for use of the medical device before use.

Intrack® Inserts.

INDICATIONS: Surgical clamps are used with jaw inserts to occlude a blood vessel temporarily and may be used to clamp over indwelling catheters. Suitable for veins and arteries.

For Vascular

– Suitable for veins and arteries
– Performs efficiently on either diseased or normal vessels
– Provides occlusion of atherosclerotic vessels without excessive closing forces
– Minimizes intimal damage and fragmentation of atherosclerotic material

Can be clamped over indwelling catheters

For Gastrointestinal

– Replaces bulky, rubber shod clamps
– Cushion-design of inserts enables occlusion without crushing the bowel

Medical Device Class IIa – CE 2797 – Manufacturer: Vitalitec International Inc. Carefully read the instructions for use of the medical device before use.
