Peters Surgical, a leader in surgical equipment manufacturing, produces over 53 million clips annually. Distributed in more than 90 countries, these clips are renowned for their precision, reliability, and quality.

This article explores the meticulous process behind the manufacturing of Peters Surgical clips, highlighting the key steps and quality control measures that ensure each clip meets the highest standards.

I. Clips

Peters Surgical clips are crafted from pure titanium.

These clips are offering several distinct advantages:

  • No shape memory: Ensures stable hemostatic sealing.
  • Chevron shape: Coupled with crossed striation on the clip-to-tissue contact surface for stability.
  • Diamond shape internal striation of the clips: ensuring multidirectional grip of vessels and tissues
  • Triangular shape of the clip: to fit the grooves of the appliers, allowing accurate positioning in jaws of the appliers
  • Six Sizes: Including one exclusive size to meet diverse surgical needs.

II. Manufacturing Process

  1. Laminating and forming

The manufacturing process for Peters Surgical clips begins with the cutting and shaping of titanium wire, which has been laminated beforehand. This is a continuous process, which ensures a perfect fit between the clip and the applicator. This semi-automated process guarantees both high quality and high production rates, with each machine capable of producing around 180 clips per minute, totalling more than one million clips per week.

  1. Deburring

This is followed by an automated deburring stage using abrasive stones to obtain a surface finish free of roughness, thus ensuring that the clip is atraumatic with respect to the vessels.

  1. Heat treatment

To relieve material stress, the clips are annealed in a vacuum oven at approximately 600°C. This process ensures that the clips perform effectively in surgical applications.

  1. Cleaning

Degreasing is performed after each step of the manufacturing process. For the final cleaning, clips are cleaned using detergent in ultrasonic bath, ensuring they are free from contaminants.

  1. Packaging then sterilization

Once cleaned and annealed, the clips are loaded on cartridges. Then, they are packaged and sterilized. Peters Surgical offers six color-coded sizes, allowing surgeons to select the appropriate clip for their needs.

The manufacturing of Peters Surgical clips is a testament to the company’s commitment. From cutting and forming to rigorous quality control, every step is meticulously designed to produce clips that meet the highest standards. Distributed in over 90 countries.
