A BIT OF HISTORY

World Environment Day is celebrated on 5 June, a date set by the United Nations in 1972 to :

  • Draw society’s attention to environmental issues.
  • Raise awareness of the importance of combating environmental problems.

This day is the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and organised every year since 1973, it has become the world’s biggest platform for raising environmental awareness, celebrated by millions of people around the world.

In 2024, the theme “Accelerating land restoration, drought resilience and desertification” invites us to reflect on ways to restore nature in order to increase livelihoods, reduce poverty and slow climate change.

We know that the planet is facing a triple crisis:

  • Climate change.
  • Biodiversity loss.
  • Waste management.

“We can’t turn back the clock, but we can cultivate forests, revive water sources and restore soil. We are the generation that can make peace with the earth. “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration“.

We are all part of a generation that is the first to witness the devastating effects of environmental degradation. It is vital to involve everyone in activities that lead to reflection and concrete action.

To mark World Environment Day, which is celebrated every year on 5 June to raise awareness and promote action in favour of the environment, Peters Surgical has decided to organise awareness-raising events for employees at all its sites, to get everyone involved in this environmental initiative.

FRANCE – THE EXHIBITION

📅 We hosted the “Water and climate change: players in the Grand Est region get involved” exhibition at our headquarters for a week.

A series of 14 photographs taken in various countries around the world were displayed in different parts of our offices.

This exhibition aims to :

  • Raise awareness of the realities of access to water for many disadvantaged populations.
  • Raise awareness of the additional risks posed by climate change.
  • Highlight the work of 14 cooperation structures in the Grand Est region, committed to a fairer world.

On D-Day, we organised an exhibition preview in the presence of Gaelle Nougarede, co-founder of the Movement France association and one of the photographers who helped create the exhibition. Movement France is dedicated to protecting the environment, fighting global warming and empowering women in Burkina Faso.

This is a unique opportunity to get to know them and learn more about global warming and the solutions available to improve the situation.
